I just had this London blue topaz & purple garnet Flower Power charm out to measure it’s bale and it gave me a little boost of happy summer energy.
🚨🚨WE INTERRUPT THIS POST FOR A JEWELRY EDUCATION ALERT🚨🚨
BALE/BAIL: (noun) the component at the top of a pendant or charm that the chain threads through. Also sometimes referred to as a jump ring, though “jump ring” is a totally seperate term that is applicable to multiple scenarios, whereas “bale” is only ever used in this 1 specfic scenario. There are many sizes and widths of bales, some are even adorned with stones.
We’re working on a new charm series with round stones beneath a diamond dusted bale - to coordinate with our long time lover best selling Drop Earrings - and are finessing the interior and exterior milimeter dimensions of said sparkly bale.
It’s common for us to reference existing pieces in our line when developing new items for A. aesthetic consistencies and B. if it ain’t broke, don’t fix vibes. Nailing the right bale size can be a particularly tricky little puzzle, as you want to make sure that the component will succesfully slid off our chains, but also onto chains that people already own. BUT, it can’t be garrish in size or out of proportion with the rest of the design. So when we find a sweet spot we definitely like to maximize it!
